NormSoft Delivers Pocket Tunes Media Player for Award-Winning Handspring Treo 600
Application is free for
Treo 600 customers who register their smartphone with Handspring.
Millis, Massachusetts - October
27, 2003 - NormSoft, Inc. today announced an agreement with Handspring, Inc.
(NASDAQ: HAND) to distribute Pocket Tunes Basic 2.0 to users of Handspring's new
Treo 600 smartphone. Customers who purchase the new smartphone will have the
option to download a free fully-licensed copy of Pocket Tunes Basic after
registering their device with Handspring. Pocket Tunes is an advanced MP3 player for Palm OS 5 devices. Aside from
playing MP3 files, Pocket Tunes will also play Ogg Vorbis and WAV files. Pocket
Tunes includes many other features as well. For instance, it will continue
playing music while using other applications and can display its popup console
to easily pause, change the volume, or switch songs. Pocket Tunes also includes
a 10-band graphic equalizer to adjust the audio as well as full-color skin
support and many other features that make it the preferred player for the Treo
600. "Pocket Tunes is a
natural choice for Handspring’s new smartphone," said Tim Norman, President of
NormSoft. "Our software turns the Treo 600 into a portable music player,
further adding to the impressive capabilities of this all-in-one device." In addition, Pocket Tunes has been specially
optimized for the Treo 600's unique feature set. Pocket Tunes takes full
advantage of the Treo 600's Five-way navigation control to make one-handed use
possible. Pocket Tunes will also turn off the Treo 600's screen to conserve
battery power while playing and will pause audio playback when the phone rings
to allow the phone to be answered. Finally, Treo 600 users will benefit from
the included skin that has been specially optimized for the Treo 600’s display. "Treo 600 is a powerful smartphone that is
further enhanced by applications like Pocket Tunes, which brings a great audio
experience to an already feature-packed voice and wireless data device," said
Calin Pacurariu, director of developer solutions for Handspring. "We are pleased
to be working with NormSoft to deliver this application free of charge to our
Treo 600 customers." Customers using the free copy of Pocket Tunes Basic will receive free updates to
all future 2.X versions, when available. Power users will also have the option
of upgrading to Pocket Tunes Deluxe. The deluxe version offers crossfading,
gapless playback, and bookmarking capabilities. Crossfading seamlessly fades
from one song to the next, while gapless playback eliminates the annoying skip
between songs recorded from a live album. Bookmarking allows listeners to keep
track of where they left off when listening to audio books or recorded radio
broadcasts. Pocket Tunes works with many other Palm handhelds as well. A free trial is
