Starting with Pocket Tunes Radio 5.3 you can change the speed that you stream a station at, provided the station provides streams at other speeds. Some stations only have one or two speeds. Others have numerous different speeds you can stream at.
For more information on how the speed that a station streams at impacts the quality and reliability of the station, see this Knowledge Base article.
Here is how to change the stream speed or bitrate as it is often referred to:
- Start a station playing a station in Pocket Tunes Radio
- Once it is playing, if you want to change the speed that it streams,. the bitrate, tap the upper right where the speed and format of the station are displayed.

- When you tap that, it will bring up a pop[ up that allows you to adjust the bitrate of the stream
- The pop up will show all known streams for the station. Obviously if there is only one stream for the station then you cannot change the speed to anything else.

- Tap Done once you have selected the stream and the pop up will close and Pocket Tunes will connect to the newly selected bitrate.
- Note that the higher the bitrate the less stable the station is but the better the sound quality, the lower the bitrate the more stable it is. But you lose sound quality.
- Generally Pocket Tunes will pick the best stream for your connection but if you are getting a lot of drop outs you can use this feature to set Pocket Tunes to a lower bitrate stream (if one is available).
Again, this Knowledge Base article has more information about the quality and reliability as it relates to bitrates and also the type of data connection you have (3G, Edge, WiFi)
