How do I change the stream speed of Sirius radio?

- This article Applies to the Apple iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch only -

Depending on your data connection, you may want to change the stream bitrate of your Sirius channels.

Basically you have two options:

Standard: Streams up to 32 Kbps. Higher stability, lower sound quality. Good for Edge or poor 3g service.

Premium: Streams up to 128 Kbps (CD quality). Needs a solid data connection, fabulous sound quality. Good for WiFi and solid 3G connections.*

Here is how to set Sirius to either setting.

  1. Once you login you are taken to the Sirius Media Player. The buttons to set stream speed are below the "Now Playing" window.

    - The button that is colored orange is the currently selected speed. Premium is good for WiFi and 3G connections that a good to excellent.
    - You might want to expand the page a bit to see the buttons better.
    - If you want to set the speed to the other option, simply tap the button that is colored blue.
  2. When you select the other speed, the page will reload and now the speed that you selected will be colored orange.

    - now the standard setting is selected.
    - Standard is best for Edge and 3G connections that are poor or spotty.
  3. Note that if there is a station playing when you make the change. You need to load another station and then load the first station again in order to get it to play at the new stream setting.
  4. Not all stations will play at the full 128K, some stations (mostly talk stations) will play at lower bitrates when set to "Premium". But still higher then when set to "Standard"

*NOTE: To access premium streams in Sirius, you may need to pay and additional fee. Please contact Sirius if you are not certain whether your subscription includes the Premium on-line service.
