| If you have installed iOS4, please see "How to change the 'Force Screen On' setting, below". With the release of OS4, Apple no longer turns off WiFi after the screen is off for 30 minutes. You can set the option to "Off" to save battery life while you are connected to WiFi. |
We chose not to turn the screen off automatically when you are using WiFi (on 3G/Edge the screen does turn off automatically as of version 5.1). You can override this behavior or turn Pocket Tunes off manually.
There is a reason for leaving the screen on. The way the Apple operating system works on the iPhone and iPod touch is that after 30 minutes the WiFi connection is closed. That means that if you are listening to music with the screen off, after 30 minutes it will stop playing. You then have to turn the screen back on and press play to start the stream again.
We made it so that the automatic setting is for the screen to stay on when you are connected to WiFi so that you will get an uninterrupted playback of the station. However you can simply switch the screen off if you would prefer to conserve battery life. Just be aware that the stream will likely stop after 30 minutes and you will need to re-start it.

You can also change a setting in the Pocket Tunes Radio settings so that it will turn off. Go to the Apple "Settings" app form the home screen. Scroll down to Pocket Tunes. Tap "Screen" and slide the "Force screen on" slider to "Off". Then go back to Pocket Tunes and screen will turn based on what you have your device set to automatically turn the screen off.
