I received the error message, "Unable to initialize the licensing subsystem. ...(0x8004d001)" what do I do?

If you receive this error, it means that there is a conflict between Pocket Tunes and another program that is resulting in a problem with the playback and/or transfer of copy protected files.

There are five programs that we are aware of which can cause this issue to arise:

  • Audio Gateway
  • flash Player (from PalmPowerUps)
  • UDMH (no longer a conflict if you use Pocket Tunes 4.0.5 or higher)
  • SyncBeforeReset
  • MSMount
  • Softick Cache
  • E2 Internal Drive
  • KOPSI

All are third party programs. They are not included in any Palm device 'out of the box', so you had to have added them to your device.

With Audio Gateway, simply set it to 'Internal' to stop it from interfering.

With UDMH, if you are using Pocket Tunes 4, update to the latest version and it will no longer conflict. If you are using an earlier version of Pocket Tunes, you can try disabling it then resetting the device. If you still receive the error message you will have to remove UDMH from your device in order to play copy protected tracks like those from an online store.

You need to remove 'flash Player' to prevent it form interfering with protected files. NOTE: Make sure you remove the following files "SilkMgrStub.prc", "MMFlash.prc" and "MMFlashlib.prc" to remove it completely and stop the interference.

SynBeforeReset will need to be disabled before using Pocket Tunes.

With MSMount, you need to disable it before using Pocket Tunes. Or you can use a program called PowerRun which does the same thing as MSMount but does not trigger the error in Pocket Tunes.

Softick Cache needs to be disabled before you start Pocket Tunes.

E2 Internal Drive needs to be uninstalled from your device

KOSPI - reported by a Pocket Tunes customer, still being confirmed. It appears that you will need to uninstall this from your device. An alternative to using KOSPI is CJKOS which does not trigger this error message.

If you definitely do not have any of these programs, then it could be a program that has not yet been identified as a problem. Programs that use YAHM (Yet Another Hack Manager) are prime suspects so try disabling those and see if you the message disappears. If it does, enable each hack, one at a time until the message returns. Let us know which program triggered the message so that we can update this article.

If you do not have any of the programs listed, please send us a list of programs on your device. To get a list of programs that are on your Palm, the easiest way is to use a program called TrackerDog, it's a free version tracking program for your Palm but it also has a quick way to send a list of programs to a memo which you can HotSync to your desktop and send to us here.

1-Download TrackerDog from here
2-Install it to your device
3-On your Palm go to TrackerDog and open the menu
4-Under the 'App DB' menu items, select Send list to memo
5-On the 'Send List to Memo' screen only check 'Current version/date and 'Home URL', leave the rest blank
6-Press 'Ok' and the list is sent to a new memo
7-Hotsync your device to transfer the memo to your PC

Once you have the memo to your PC, simply copy and paste the contents of the Tracker Dog memo into the support request that you can fill out on this page http://www.pocket-tunes.com/scripts/support.php .
