Copy songs from CD to Pocket Tunes for Windows Mobile: Using iTunes

- This article applies Windows Mobile devices only -

Ensure that iTunes 7 or higher is installed on your PC.

The following is for Windows operating system only.

Step 1 - Install Pocket Tunes Sync for iTunes

Download the latest installer for Pocket Tunes for Windows Mobile from our download page here.

Install Pocket Tunes and Pocket Tunes Sync for iTunes as per the institutions in the  User Guide here.

Step 2 - Launch iTunes

Go to the Start menu

Click "All Programs"

Go to the iTunes folder and select

Step 3 - Open iTunes Preferences

Pocket Tunes for Windows Mobile supports the two main formats that you can rip (or import) files to using iTunes, AAC and MP3. these are the most popular for portable devices. Either are fine to use though we recommend AAC since it is slightly better sound quality than MP3.

Go to the "Edit" option in the top right of iTunes.

Click on it and select "Preferences" at the bottom of the drop down.

This opens the iTunes preferences window, click on the "Advanced" tab.

Step 4 - Set format and other preferences

On the line that starts "Import Using", set the drop down to either MP3 Encoder or AAC Encoder

On the line starting with "Setting", choose "High Quality (128 kbps)". You can use another setting here but this is a good place to start until you are more comfortable with importing tracks from CD using iTunes.

Now press "OK" to save the settings and close that window.

Step 4 - Insert the CD

Insert your CD into the CD player/burner of your PC

Depending on your settings, iTunes may pop up a message asking you if you would like to import the CD.

If it does pop up a message like that, click on "Yes" and iTunes will start importing the tracks from your CD to iTunes in the format you set earlier.

If it does not pop up that message, you can manually start it importing your CD by pressing "Import CD" in the bottom right corner of iTunes.

Step 5 - Create a Playlist

Pocket Tunes uses iTunes playlists to transfer tracks from iTunes so you need to create a playlist of the tracks imported from your CD.

You can add as many songs to the playlist as you want, you are not restricted to only the songs you imported from your CD.

Once iTunes has imported all the tracks, press the plus sign in the bottom left corner to create a new playlist.

Name your list whatever you want.

Now go to the "Music" tab on the left side and drag and drop the songs you want in the playlist to the new playlist you just created.

Step 6 - Set up Pocket Tunes Sync for iTunes

Connect your Windows Mobile device to the USB cable.

If Pocket Tunes for iTunes Sync does not start up when you connect, go to the Start menu, then "All Programs" and select the "Pocket Tunes for Windows Mobile" folder and click on "iTunes Sync"

This will open  Pocket Tunes for iTunes Sync.

You can adjust the settings any way you want but the important thing is to check the box beside the playlist you created in iTunes. (refer to the Pocket Tunes for Windows Mobile User Guide here)

Once you have checked the playlist(s) you want to transfer to your device, press "Synchronize Now".

Your transfer will start and once it is complete, your tracks and playlist(s) will be on your device (on the SD card).

Step 7 - Play your songs

Open Pocket Tunes and go to the Choose Songs screen (Found in the menu or press the left soft key)

You should see some folders starting with "All Content" and ending with "Internet Radio"

If you do not see this, press the left five way button until you do.

Now select "Playlists"

Locate your playlist(s) and select the one(s) you want. You can choose more than one if you want.

Select "Play Sel." and Pocket Tunes will start playing your tracks!

Enjoy!!
