What iTunes audio formats does Pocket Tunes support?

Article applies to both the Palm and Windows Mobile operating systems

Pocket Tunes 4 Deluxe supports the following formats used by iTunes:

  • iTunes Plus (new unprotected tracks now sold at most iTunes on-line stores)
  • Apple AAC Encoder
  • MP3 encoder
  • WAV encoder

Pocket Tunes does not currently support Apple Lossless format and Apple's AIFF format.

Also note that tracks purchased from iTunes, that are NOT iTunes Plus, are not supported. We refer to these as copy-protected music (iTunes Plus do not have copy protection on them).

Although we would very much like to support these files, we are unfortunately unable to license the Apple DRM copy protection embedded in them. We continue to contact Apple/iTunes on a regular basis in hopes they will reverse this policy. There are currently no Palm-based players that support copy-protected songs purchased from the iTunes music store.

If you wish to play your iTunes purchased tracks in Pocket Tunes, you need to burn the tracks to a CD and rip them back in MP3. Transfer the MP3 files to your Palm and Pocket Tunes will play those. This method is NOT needed for iTunes Plus tracks. Pocket Tunes plays those as they are.

Note: The free trial version of Pocket Tunes includes support for the AAC format during the trial.

Pocket Tunes 3 customers can play MP3 and WAV files created in iTunes.
