Transfer songs from Windows Media Player 10 to your Palm device.

- This article applies to the Palm OS Only -

Before proceeding, ensure that Pocket Tunes is in MTP mode. Open the Pocket Tunes menu, go to 'Preferences' and choose 'Copy from PC preferences', confirm that it says MTP in the drop down menu. If it says anything else, select the drop down and change it to MTP, then close Pocket Tunes and reopen it.

Step 1 - Connect your Palm handheld

Wait for Windows Media Player to complete copying the music to your computer.  When it has finished, the "Rip Status" column will read "Ripped to Library" for all of the tracks on the CD.

Make sure Pocket Tunes is in MTP mode. Open the Pocket Tunes menu, go to 'Preferences' and choose 'Copy from PC preferences', confirm that it says MTP in the drop down menu. If it says anything else, select the drop down and change it to MTP, then close Pocket Tunes.

Now connect your Palm handheld to your PC by placing it in its cradle or connecting it to your PC using its HotSync cable.  Make sure that the cradle or cable is plugged into your PC.

Step 2 - Open Pocket Tunes 

On your Palm handheld, start Pocket Tunes.  If you have a device with a Home screen (eg. TX, LifeDrive), you can press the Home button, then tap "Music"

You can also go to the "Applications" program, select the drop down in the upper right and set it to "Multi-media" and tap on "pTunes" to launch Pocket Tunes as well.

Step 3 - Select songs to transfer

In Windows Media Player , click on the "Library" tab.

Step 4 - Select the tracks you want to transfer

You can select your tracks individually, by artist, by album, your choice. Highlight the track(s) you wish to sync.

Right click on the track(s)

Select "Add To" then click "Sync list"

Step 5 - send the tracks to your device

Click on the "Sync" tab.

You should then see the list of tracks you selected to sync to your device on the left side and your device on the right, as shown below:

Press the "Start Sync" button to begin transferring the tracks to your device.

You should see Windows Media Player give the progress of the transfer like this:

Pocket Tunes will display a message "Receiving file from PC....Do not disconnect" during the transfer

Step 7 - finishing up

Once the transfer is completed, Pocket Tunes will say "Idle...it is safe to press Stop when you are done transferring files. You can then press "Stop Communication" and disconnect the USB cable.

Open Pocket Tunes on the Palm and go to the "Choose Songs" screen (In the menu got to "Actions" then "Open"). Pocket Tunes sorts by Artist, Album and Genre as well as alphabetically in the "All Content folder. Tap whichever is your preference and select the tracks you transferred and press "OK".

Pocket Tunes will then play the tracks.
