| IMPORTANT: If you are using the built in version of Pocket Tunes, you should update to the latest release. It has added support for MTP communication which you can use if you have Windows Media Player 10 or higher. For more information on transferring files in MTP mode, see this Knowledge Base article. |
Note, these steps for transferring files from your PC to your device are meant for anyone using the Legacy mode of communication. To find out how to determine what mode Pocket Tunes is using on your device, please see this Knowledge Base article.
You will be using Legacy if
- You are using Windows Media Player 9
- You have a device that does not support online store communication (MTP) such as the Garmin iQue, Sony devices, or the Tapwave Zodiac
- You are using the version of Pocket Tunes that was included with your device (eg. Palm LifeDrive, T|X, Treo 700p, 680, 755p) and have not updated to Pocket Tunes 4 or upgraded to Pocket Tunes Deluxe or Basic.
Make sure you have run the Pocket Tunes Installer on your PC before proceeding. The installer can be downloaded from http://www.pocket-tunes.com/download.html .
To transfer your files using Legacy mode:
- Connect your Palm handheld using its USB cable, or place it in its cradle.
- On your Palm, start Pocket Tunes.
- For the Sony CLIE, select the Actions menu in Pocket Tunes (tap near the top of the screen to bring up the menu), and pick "Connect to PC". (On other devices, this step is not necessary, but you can perform it if you prefer.)
- Start Windows Media Player on your PC. (If you start Windows Media Player before your Palm is connected, your device may not be detected correctly.)
- In Windows Media Player, click on "Library" and select the audio files that you would like to copy.
- Right click on the audio files and select "Add to Sync List" (or "Copy to CD or Device" in Windows Media Player 9).
- On the right-hand side, you should now see a drop-down with a list of devices. (The CD Drive is usually the default.)
- From this drop down, select your Palm handheld. If you do not see your device, press F5 to refresh the list of devices.
- Press the ( or "Copy" in WMP9) button in the upper-left corner (upper-right corner in WMP9).
- When the copying has completed, you may begin playing the new music! Tap the Open button to select music that you want to play.
