Pocket Tunes has two methods of communication: MTP and Legacy.
If you are planning on transferring tracks from an online store like Napster, Rhapsody or Yahoo you will need to use MTP and you also must have Pocket Deluxe.
Requirements for MTP communication:
- Windows XP (Windows Media Player 10 or 11) or Windows Vista (Windows Media Player 11) on the desktop PC
- A device that supports MTP communication: Palm Treo 600, 650, 680, 700p, 755p, Zire 31, 71, 72, Tungsten T, T2, T3, T5, C, E, E2, T|X, or LifeDrive.
- Pocket Tunes Deluxe, Basic or in a valid free trial period
- Updated your built in version of Pocket Tunes to version 4. This is a free update for anyone who has a device that came with Pocket Tunes built in (ie. LifeDrive, T|X, 700p, 680, and 755p).
For instructions on transferring in MTP mode, see this Knowledge Base article.
You will need to use Legacy if any of the following are true:
- You are using Windows Media Player 9 and a Windows operating system other than XP
- Your device does not support MTP communication, eg. Sony, Garmin iQue and Tapwave products
- For instructions on transferring using Legacy mode, see this Knowledge Base article.
To determine what communication method you are using:
- Open Pocket Tunes and go to the 'Preferences' menu
- Click on the 'Copy from PC preferences' menu item
- Most Pocket Tunes customers will see a drop down near the top of the screen that will say either 'Off', 'MTP, or 'Legacy'. If it says Legacy, you are in Legacy mode. If you are using a built in version of Pocket Tunes and the drop down says 'Automatic', 'Internal' or the name of your SD card (if the card is not named it will say 'Unnamed Card') then you are in Legacy mode.
NOTE: for Mac users, it is recommended you set the drop down to 'Off' if it is available.
