How to update Pocket Tunes to the latest version?

- This article applies to the Palm OS Only -

Before updating, you need to determine which version of Pocket Tunes you are currently using. You can do this by opening Pocket Tunes on your Palm device, tapping the "Menu" icon (or pressing the menu key on the keyboard), selecting the "Help" menu, and then selecting "About Pocket Tunes". Your version number will be displayed on that screen. If you are using a prior version (Version 1.x or 2.x), then you must purchase an upgrade to the latest version before you can update.

  1. Download the latest version from www.pocket-tunes.com/download.html. If you have a PC running Windows, download the English Windows Installer. If you have a Macintosh or other operating system, download the English Zip File.
  2. Check the "About Pocket Tunes" screen in the "Help" menu and write down your registration code before updating your software. You should keep your registration code somewhere safe in case you ever need to reinstall Pocket Tunes.
  3. DO NOT uninstall or delete your current version of Pocket Tunes or you will lose your settings and playlists.

On Windows:

  1. Double-click the pTunes.exe file that you downloaded.
  2. Follow the instructions that appear to install Pocket Tunes on your PC and/or Palm.
  3. If you already have Pocket Tunes installed, be sure that music is not playing. Open the Pocket Tunes application and tap the "Pause" or "Stop" button.
  4. Perform a HotSync operation.
  5. Pocket Tunes will be installed to the Multimedia category on your Palm.

On Macintosh, Linux, or other operating systems:

  1. You will need a program to extract ZIP files. For Macintosh, Stuffit Expander is a popular program.
  2. If you already have Pocket Tunes installed, be sure that music is not playing. Open the Pocket Tunes application and tap the "Pause" or "Stop" button.
  3. Open the Pocket Tunes ZIP file and double-click on PocketTunes.prc
  4. If you wish to install the included skin, double-click on HiFiSkin.pdb (or HiFiLowRes.pdb for low-resolution devices like the Treo 600 or Zire 31).
  5. If you wish to install the optional plugins for playing Ogg Vorbis or WAV files, double-click the pTunesOgg.prc and/or pTunesWav.prc files in the plugins folder
  6. Perform a HotSync operation.
  7. Pocket Tunes will be installed to the Multimedia category on your Palm.
