Load the new Pocket Sleek (Blue) Skin to see the Album Art on files that contain Album Art. The skin installs when you install Pocket Tunes 4.
There are two ways Pocket Tunes will read Album Art, either from a jpeg included in the Tag information of the file being played or it will look in the folder that the track is kept and if there is a jpeg there, it will use that.
- A skin that displays Album Art, the new default Pocket Tunes Sleek (Blue) skin displays album art and more skins will be coming soon that will also support album art display.
- Make sure you have installed the latest version of Pocket Tunes 4 available here.
- You need album art. It can be the actual album art or it can even be any jpeg format pic you want. Below is some specific information on the new Album Art feature.
Album Art from Tags:
If you transfer a jpeg file of the album art into the folder which contains the song(s) for that album, Pocket Tunes will display the album art, unless there is album art in the tag of a song from that folder, in which case Pocket Tunes will display that art for the song.
The easiest way to get the album art over is to use a card reader. If you have a LifeDrive you can use the LifeDrive Manger or Drive Mode. Card Export from www.softick.com also works well for drag and dropping files and folders to your SD card.
Rhapsody supplies Album Art with their downloads. You don’t need to do anything special, just transfer the file the way you do any Rhapsody track and Pocket Tunes will display the artwork. Yahoo and Napster (and other on-line stores) do not include Album Art embedded in the audio files, instead they are stand alone jpg files that are in the same folder as the track(s). Pocket Tunes does not currently support transfer of album art in folders directly, however you can use the Windows Media Player method outlined below to add album art to each track. If your tracks are already on the SD card, see this Knowledge Base article on how to add art to tracks already on the SD card.
Depending on how you rip tracks from your CDs, the album art will be transferred with the album to the folder you rip the track to. Windows Media Player for example will place the album art in the folder for the album. Then you can drag and drop that folder to the SD card and Pocket Tunes will display the Album Art. (NOTE: to see the jpg files that Windows Media Player stores you need to change your Folder Options to show hidden files)
There are also programs available that will find album art for you. One is Tag and Rename . There may be others so please let us know if you find any useful programs out there and we can add them to this article.
Using Windows Media Player:
1. Album Art must be in the Tag OR you will need to transfer the Album Art over using a card reader (see next steps) after you transfer the tracks
2. Use the process outlined in this Knowledge Base article to add album art to an audio file using Windows Media Player's tag editor.
3. You can then transfer the file as you normally do.
4. Once the track is transferred, as long as you are using a skin that displays Album Art, it will be displayed when the track is played.
Using a Card Reader for files that have Album Art in folders:
1. The important thing here is that the jpeg file needs to be in the folder that the tracks are in as well.
2a. If the tracks are already transferred to your device (either form on-line sources or your own collection). Drag and drop the album art from your PC to the folder that contains the track(s) you want to attach the art to. Most often this is a folder named after the album which is a subfolder of another folder named after the artist eg. Audio/Music/Beatles/Help
2b. If the tracks are not transferred yet. If they are from an on-line store or library, transfer the tracks first using the on-line store's program or Windows Media Player, then follow the steps in 2a, above. If the tracks are not protected you can drag and drop the whole folder to the /Audio or /Music folder and transfer the tracks and album art at once.
For example, to transfer the Beatles Help, locate the Help folder on your PC (usually under My Music, within the artist's folder like: My Music/Beatles). Drag the Help folder over to the /Audio or /Music folder on your SD card. All your tracks and art for that album are transferred. Want all of an artist's tracks on your card? Drag the folder named after the artist ('Beatles' in this example) and all the albums will be transferred along with the album art.
3. You can have more than one file in the folder, Pocket Tunes prioritizes in the following manner:
1. If a file contains Album Art in the Tag, that will be displayed
2. If there are multiple jpegs in the folder, Pocket Tunes does a calculation to calculate the best one to use and selects that jpeg
Using a Card Reader for files that have Album Art in Tags:
1. Simply drag the files to the SD Card and drop.
2. Play the track(s) using a skin that supports skins and Pocket Tunes will display the Album Art.
Using HotSync:
1. You must use files that have the Album Art in the taqs to use HotSync.
2. Drag them to Palm Quick Install's Expansion Card area
3. HotSync your device
4. then just play the track in Pocket Tunes using a skin that supports Album Art
