My WMA files keep skipping in my Treo 600, why?

If you are playing WMA files on the Treo 600 there can be certain situations where you might find the files skip. The Treo 600 is at the absolute minimum requirements for playback of tracks from online stores or tracks that are copy protected.

If you are trying to play tracks from an online store or you added copy protection to the file when you ripped it from CD, you need to disable EQ in Pocket Tunes.  We've tweaked it as much as possible but having EQ or Bass Boost activated when these files playback is too much for the Treo 600 processor.

If you are uncertain whether the files are protected, in Windows Media Player under Tools/Options. Go to the Rip Music Tab. If the copy protect music box is checked then your files have copy protection added to them. This means Pocket Tunes has to decode the tracks while you play them back, like they would any tracks from an online store, so you would need to disable EQ to minimize the use of the Treo 600 resources. You might also find the buttons slower than a non protected WMA because of the amount of processing happening. But as long as you disable EQ the files should not skip. You can also uncheck the copy protection box and delete the files you already transferred, re-rip the tracks without protection and transfer those. Those files should play fine even with EQ enabled.
