Why can't I use the "hold" button on my device?

We support this on the Treo 600, but we are currently unable to support it on other devices. The Tungsten T/T2/T3 and Zire 71 seem to have a limitation that prevents us from locking the keys while the screen is turned off. We are looking into ways to work around this.
