As of Pocket Tunes 3.1.7, Pocket Tunes has improved the way it interacts with the keylock function on Palm handhelds including the T3, T5, TX, E and E2, Zire 31, 72. (see your devices user guide to determine if it has the keylock function)
| Note: Treo and Centro smartphones have a built in keylock function which Pocket Tunes supports so the following applies does NOT apply to those devices. |
The Keylock function is set in the System Preferences screen under 'Keylock'. See the user guide for your Palm for more information.
There are three possible settings, Never (keylock is disabled), Automatic (Keylock activated automatically when device is turned off), and Manual (Keylock is activated when you press and hold the power button for two seconds).
Here is how Pocket Tunes will behave under each scenario.
Never:
- This operates the way it has in the past. If Pocket Tunes is set to blank the screen after a certain number of seconds, the screen is blanked but he hard button and screen are still active.
- Pressing any hard button will cause the device to turn on again
- Tapping the screen will cause the screen to turn on UNLESS you have the 'Advanced Option' enabled in Pocket Tunes: 'Ignore screen taps when blanked' in which case screen taps are ignored but pressing a hard button will have the T|X turn on again and either go to the application mapped to that button or, if you pressed a five way button, could change the volume or the track playing.
Automatic:
- Depending on how you set the preferences in Pocket Tunes, you can have the device lock while the screen is off so that tapping the screen or pressing the hard buttons, will NOT impact playback in any way. And the only way the device is turned on is by pressing the power button.
- This setting will allow you to put your device in a pocket, purse, knapsack etc and not have to worry about the screen inadvertently being turned on or Pocket Tunes skipping to another track.
- To set this up, here are the settings we recommend in Pocket Tunes:
- Enable "Turn off screen after xx seconds" and set the number of seconds to whatever setting suites you (10, 30 or 60 seconds any is fine)
- Enable "Power button turns off screen"
- Enable "Blank screen while in other apps" if you want to be able to shut the screen off but have the music continue, when you are in an application other than Pocket Tunes.
- With these settings, whenever the screen turns off, the hard button and screen are locked and cannot turn the device back on, only the power button will turn the screen on, but Pocket Tunes will continue to play the audio file.
Manual:
- The biggest difference between automatic and Manual setting is that, using the same settings as described in the 'Automatic' section, when you press the power button quickly, you will see the same performance as when keylock is set to Automatic. BUT, if you hold the power button down for two seconds, the Palm OS will shutdown everything including Pocket Tunes so the music will stop.
- Note: If you wish to turn the device off entirely (ie. hold the power button down for 2 seconds) you should stop Pocket Tunes first as there is a bug which will cause Pocket Tunes to start playing the next track in the playlist after you deactivate the keylock.
