Overdrive is an Audiobook management program that is used by some libraries and online Audiobook sellers. Please note that Overdrive version 2 is out now and the first set of instructions are for use with that version. Instructions for version 1 follow those.
You must be using Pocket Tunes Deluxe to play Overdrive tracks on your Palm.
NOTE: Pocket Tunes must be in MTP mode and you need to have run the Pocket Tunes English Windows Installer exe file (available at http://www.pocket-tunes.com/download.html ) before attempting to transfer files via Overdrive. To put Pocket Tunes into MTP mode: open the Pocket Tunes menu, go to 'Preferences' and choose 'Copy from PC preferences', confirm that it says MTP in the drop down menu. If it says anything else, select the drop down and change it to MTP, then close Pocket Tunes .
Steps to transfer files from Overdrive version 2.1 to Pocket Tunes:
- Open Overdrive (make sure you are using version 2)
- Connect your Palm device and open Pocket Tunes
- If you have a window pop up on your desktop asking which media player to use, select "Take No Action"
- In Overdrive, select the book(s) you plan to transfer and press 'Transfer'
- Press next on the pop up in Overdrive. In
- the next screen you should see Pocket Tunes listed in the drop down above the chapters for the book(s). There is a bug in Overdrive that may cause 'Pocket Tunes' to be listed twice. This is because Overdrive is showing both the External and Internal memory of the device. In most cases the topmost listing for Pocket Tunes is the SD card. In the case of the LifeDrive, the internal hard drive should be topmost and the SD card beneath it (if you have a card inserted)
- select which chapters you want to transfer, the press next
- Overdrive will transfer the selected chapters to your Palm and you should be set to listen to the book(s)
Note: we had a couple of people have trouble connecting through the transfer command of Overdrive. We found that if they chose "burn" the tracks were added to Windows Media Player and they could transfer using Windows Media Player as per the instructions below, beginning from step 8 to the end.
Steps to transfer files from Overdrive version 2.0 (or earlier) to Pocket Tunes:
- Hook up the Palm device to a USB connection, WITHOUT Pocket Tunes open on the device.(Note: It is recommended that you connect your USB cable to one of the main USB sockets in the back of the computer rather than a USB Hub, some hubs can interfere with the transfer of copy protected material)
- Now open Pocket Tunes
- You should get a pop up asking you what you would like Windows to do. Choose Windows Media Player (if the window does not pop up, launch Windows Media Player)
- Windows Media Player will start up if not already open, then initialize your device. On
- your Palm you should see a white and green screen that says "Communicating with PC...Please Wait", this screen will be on Pocket Tunes as long as you are hooked up to Windows Media PlayerOnce
- Once Windows Media Player has initialized the device you should see it listed on the right pane of the Sync window of Windows Media Player
- In Overdrive, select the title and click Transfer/Burn
- Now go to the now playing tab of Windows Media Player. Highlight the parts of the book you want to transfer to the device, right click and select "Add to Sync List"
- Press 'Start Sync' on the sync page and Windows Media Player will begin transfer and tell you what percentage is transferred, make sure you wait until it says complete!
- Once you have transferred all the parts you wish to transfer you can press "Stop Communication" on your Palm and your music will now be ready to play.
