Recently Live365 has changed the requirements to play many of their stations. For most station you now must be logged into Live365.om. So make sure you have either a free or VIP membership.
First, you need to have a Live 365.com account. It can be a free account but you have to sign up for at least that.
Second, in the browser, go to Live365.com and sign in.
Third, once signed in, you need to change the default player Live365 uses so tap on the "My Account" link and then the "Listen Settings" tab.
IMPORTANT if you have a Palm device: You need to put your the browser into Fast Mode. Tap the lightening bolt at the top of the screen to select Fast Mode.
Windows Mobile devices: We found that Opera Mobile works better so if you have that browser, use it. If not, you may have some issue with Explorer as it may not display the Live365 pages correctly.
Now scroll down until you see "MP3 Player"
Select that, the circle should fill in all blue.
Save your settings.
This forces Live365 to launch an external MP3 player instead of trying to launch its player.
Palm user: Now you can put the browser back into "Normal Mode" (again by tapping the lightening bolt and selecting Normal)
Navigate to the station you want, either via your presets if you have it there or a search or go to the station's page.
Press the "Play" button
Live365 will load page saying that it is about to go to the station you selected.
IMPORTANT for Palm: Put the browser back into Fast Mode if you had it in : "Normal Mode"
You will see a link saying continue, press this (you may have to tap it twice, I navigated to it using the 5 way and pressed the center button twice)
The browser will then load the station. It may take a few seconds but eventually it will call Pocket Tunes to play the stream and Pocket Tunes will then load and play the stream.
Note on some devices you may need to press the play button again on the Live365 player in order to have the stream launch.
How to get the name of the station from the desktop PC (likely will not work for most Live365 stations any more):
Just go to www.live365.com on your desktop browser and find a station you want to try.
Click on the link to the station's page on Live365.
You will see something like http://www.live365.com/stations/username in the address window of the browser
Whatever is listed in the 'Username' spot on that address is the name for the station.
So replace the username in the URL in Pocket Tunes, with the name of the station you want listen to.
Press okay and the station is added to your list of Internet Audio stations.
Click on it and press okay and it will start shortly.So.
So as an example:
If I go to the page for "Planet Zeb" (http://www.live365.com/stations/zebby) this in the address window of the browser: http://www.live365.com/stations/zebby
So in Pocket Tunes I enter http://www.live365.com/play/zebby
Pocket Tunes will play the station.
If you want to use an M3U playlist or you are accessing VIP stations:
You need to use an M3U file if you have a Live365 membership and want to access the member only stations.
To get a Live365 m3u file you need:
- Change your settings in the Listen Settings on the Live365 site. Go to your 'My 365' page on your PC, then select the 'Listen Settings' tab. Change the MP3 player to 'MP3 Player'. Save your settings. What this will do is ask you to choose the player you want to play the stream on. You'll get the regular Live365 pop up, then it will open up whatever your default MP3 player is on your desktop. We recommend you use WinAmp to create the M3U. Make sure it is installed before selecting the Live365 station. Then choose WinAmp as the player to open the with.
- Once the stream is going on your desktop player, go into File, then choose 'save playlist' or 'save current playlist as...' and save your playlist as an M3U file.
- Then transfer it over to your card
Palm Users:
Transfer via HotSync or a card reader. If you use a Card reader, place the M3U in the /Palm/programs/Pocket Tunes folder.
Windows Mobile Users:
Transfer the playlist to the SD card via Active Sync or a card reader. You can put it anywhere but we recommend placing it in the /Playlists folder (if there is not a playlists folder you can create one).
- When you open Pocket Tunes the M3U will be listed in your Playlists section.
- Select it and the stream will start up.
NOTE for Live365 VIP members: The URL for VIP stations can change frequently, so if you find you can not tune into a station that you had previously it is likely because the address has changed. You will need to create a new M3U file for the station and transfer it to Pocket Tunes to continue playing it.
