The Treo 600 has a custom headset jack, so normal 2.5mm plugs will not work on this device. In order to listen to music on a headset, you need to purchase either a custom-made adapter or a custom-made headset, designed specifically for the Treo 600. PalmOne does sell both on their website, but we've found better alternatives at www.seidioonline.com. They have an amazing assortment of cables, adapters and headsets designed with the Treo 600 in mind, as well as a digital FM transmitter that plugs in to the headset plug and transmits over your car stereo on an empty FM channel! We have acquired all of the above, and the quality is very good.
Another alternative is available at http://pc-mobile.net/treo600.htm. They sell a CABLE with a 2.5mm male and 3.5mm female (TR2J3). But even more interesting is their Retractable Audio/Headset Adapter, TR6AA. It lets you listen to music like the TR2J3 does, BUT IT LETS YOU USE YOUR HIGH-QUALITY STEREO HEADPHONES FOR PHONE CONVERSATIONS! The TR6AA includes a Mic. Just flip a switch on the TR6AA when you get a phone call and push the receive button. Since Pocket Tunes goes into PAUSE when the phone rings, you can do this without even touching the Treo!
For our Canadian friends, Radio Shack sells an adapter (Their Canadian part#274-0373) for $6 which provides the same functionality as the Palm adapter (2.5mm to 3.5mm), except that it is available in most towns without the high cost of shipping (e.g. $25 to Canada from USA).
You may wish to use it with the "SkullCandy" headset that is also sold by Radio Shack. The GREAT thing with this headset is that you can be listening to STEREO music and then when a phone call comes in it stops the MP3 player and lets you use the mike / headset speakers to speak with the person!
